Calling all girls in Slane and Donore Slane GFC and St Mary's GFC are delighted to announce that the two clubs have joined together to form Bru na Boinne Ladies Football Club. This is a great development for all girls in the two parishes who are interested in playing Gaelic football. The two clubs, of course, are already successfully amalgamated at under 14, under 16 and minor football and this year the under 14 won their league final, while the under 16 team lost out narrowly in their final. The move to set up a Ladies club has come about because of the growing numbers of young girls playing Gaelic football in the two parishes and following the GAA's decision to bar mixed games after the under 12 agegroup, the two clubs saw the need to cater for these girls. Initially, Bru na Boinne Ladies Football club plan to enter teams at under 12 and under 14 level in Meath competitions in 2011 and the plan is to grow the club from those beginnings. This is obviously very exciting news for the two parishes. To kick off the club, a 'Girls Only' blitz is being held at Slane GFC's grounds in Monknewtown on Saturday, Setember 4 next from 1 o’clock until 3 o’clock. All girls aged between 9 and 14 are asked to come along and join in - and bring your friends! Following that, there will be a second blitz for all girls aged between 9 and 14 in Donore on September 11, again from 1-3. |
