Rith 2010
Rith 2010 passed through Slane with great fanfare on Wednesday March 10.Members of Slane GFC were on hand at the Mattock River to welcome the specially inscribed baton into Co Meath, and after a quick detour via Toddy Harding Park where the runners received a hearty reception from the children of the parish, it was on into the village for the runners, where they received another great welcome.
Rith 2010 (www.rith.ie) is a national festival which runs from March 9-17 as one of the main events of Seachtain na Gaeilge. A 1600km course has been set for a non-stop relay run from Belfast to Galway with a baton changing hands between people and groups every kilometre.
Slane GFC covered 8km of the route, from the Louth-Meath border to the farthest edge of the parish before handing it over to the next group. This event was a great success for the club and we would like to thank all those who helped to make this unique run such a great success in Slane, especially Irish Officer Anna Rooney.
